DV 2024 Segments – Hayes Lane
Overview – Distance: 95 km, Climbing: 860 m
Café stops – Newdigate
This is a long, “there and back” ride to a distant segment at Slinfold, west of Horsham. Taking this route via Rusper keeps the elevation down.
You will pass Tanhouse Farm shop café (possible coffee stop) on the way to Rusper before descending towards Horsham and over the A264 roundabout and past Littlehaven station. The route skirts Horsham through Warnham and across the A24. On the Billingshurst Road, past a Skoda Garage, come to a mini roundabout and move into the cycle path and through a gap in the wooden fence screening the roundabout. Join the Five Oaks road towards Bognor. Stay on the Five Oaks Road and turn right at the Toyota garage onto Lyons Road to Slinfold.
In Slinfold turn into Hayes Lane signposted “Football and tennis club”. The segment starts 450m along Hayes Lane, just before Brick Lane and the “Tourist Information phone box”! The segment ends after a 10% kick up to the houses on the top of the hill.
At the top, turn round and descend the Hayes Lane segment. The return route goes via Warnham, where you have to cross the railway line to the right of the railway station. Follow the route to Rusper and Newdigate and maybe revisit Tanhouse for coffee.
The run home is the usual via Dorking and Leatherhead.
