Ride Safely
Dittons Velo Safety sub-Committee is committed to improve and advise on ride safety.
The remit of the Safety Sub Committee is:
- To continually reduce the number of DV incidents
- To ensure reporting of incidents
- To analyse & summarise statistics
- To propose topics for and contribute to Ride Leader and Rider training with communications channels agreed with the Committee
- To decide if an incident report needs to be submitted to BC
- To determine the safety of proposed club rides, both from route and weather perspectives
- To maintain all club safety records on the Ionos cloud storage
- To report regularly to the Committee
Weather Criteria for Club Ride Cancellations. Club rides can be cancelled by any Safety sub-Committee or Committee member if the following conditions are forecast:
Criteria / Risk / Notes
- Temperature falls below 3°C Ice / Loss of traction
- Temperature falls below 3°C overnight and is not forecast to rise above 4° C by time of the Ride Ice / Loss of traction
- Heavy rain, Thunderstorm / Loss of traction / Showers, rain, drizzle are at leader discretion
- Fog / Visibility / Mist is at your discretion
- Wind speed gusts over 40mph, gale or storm / Stability / Strong gusts, 30-39 mph (49-63 kph) is at leader discretion
- Temperature exceeds 38°C / Heat stroke

If you are unfortunate and have an accident on one of our club rides, please report it using the templates below. Make sure you report it to the DV Safety Team as soon as you have completed the form.
Riding in a group
Although we are a very social, fun and informal Club, please ensure we ride safely and have positive relationships with all road users. It’s all common-sense stuff.
